SENEGAL GAMBIA

Day 1: ARRIVAL DAKAR


Welcome on arrival by our team and transfer to the Novotel Dakar hotel.

DAY 2: DAKAR - GOREE - LAKE ROSE

 

(About 25 min ferry / 40 km / 45 min journey)
Crossing for the island of Gorée, this natural fort was, for five centuries, a fiercely disputed stopover by Europeans and the main slave trading post for the Americas. Visit the curiosities of the island: the Castel and its panoramic view, the slave house built in 1776, the Saint Charles church and the picturesque and colorful alleys. Lunch at the restaurant on the island. " Road to Lac Rose. Discovery of the site which owes its fame to its purple hue according to the intensity of the sun's rays. Visit the lake, a Peulh village and the salt collectors who border the lake. Possibility of swimming in the salt lake. Dinner and overnight at the Pink Lake Camp.

DAY 3: LAKE ROSE - SAINT LOUIS (About 240km / 04h)
Road to St-Louis. Arrival in St Louis, typical lunch at the "Galaxie" restaurant. In the afternoon, horse-drawn carriage tour of the old colonial city classified as World Heritage by Unesco: the Faidherbe Bridge, the homes of notables with old-fashioned charm, the Town Hall, the Cathedral, the Museum of the 'Aéropostale and the fishermen's quarter of Guet Ndar with multicolored canoes. Dinner and overnight in Saint-Louis at the La Poste hotel.

DAY 4: SAINT LOUIS - DJOUDJ NATIONAL PARK - SAINT LOUIS (Approx. 120 km / 2 hrs)
Early departure from Loumpoul for a visit to the Djoudj ornithological park. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the 1st water point after crossing the Sahara for migratory birds: cormorants, pelicans, whistling ducks, fishing eagles ... but also crocodiles, monitor lizards, warthogs and jackals are present. About 350 species are referenced there. Visit in a dugout canoe through the backwaters. Lunch at the park restaurant. Return to Saint Louis in the late afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at La Poste hotel.

DAY 5: SAINTLOUIS - TOUBA - DELTA DU SALOUM (About 370km / 06h)
Departure after breakfast towards the Sine Delta and Saloum. Stop in Touba, stronghold of one of Senegal's most influential Muslim brotherhoods, "Les Mourides". Visit the Touba mosque. Picnic lunch along the way or at the Relais de Kaolack then continuation to the Saloum Delta. Dinner and overnight at the Palétuviers hotel. 

DAY 6: DELOU DU SALOUM - JUFFUREH - JAMES ISLAND - BANJUL (About 1h30 ferry and 105km / 01h40)
Early departure for the village of Juffureh and James Island.
The small village of Juffureh owes its fame to the best seller "Racine" written by Alex Alley, a descendant of Kunta Kinte. Picnic lunch.
Continue to Banjul, crossing the Gambia River by Ferry.
Installation, dinner and overnight at the Ocean Bay hotel in Banjul.

DAY 7: BANJUL - MAKASUTU RESERVE - BANJUL (About 70km / 01h)
Departure for a visit to the Makasutu reserve: palm forest located between the meanders of the Gambia River, bringing together several ecosystems (dense forest, mangrove, savannah) and home to many animal species.
Canoe ride accompanied by a guide.
Lunch in the park then return to Banjul for a city tour of the city. Dinner and overnight at the Ocean Bay hotel.

DAY 8: BANJUL - DAKAR (About 01:30 ferry / 305km / 05:30)
We will resume the direction of the return to Dakar. Lunch stop at the Relais de Kaolack then continue to Dakar. Arrival in the late afternoon and transfer to the airport for the return.
