Joal Fadiouth - Saloum Delta

DAY 1: DAKAR- FADIOUTH - SIMAL (Approx. 145 km / 03:00 am)


Departure in the morning. Road to Joal, hometown of the 1st President of Senegal, Léopold Sédar Senghor. Visit of Fadiouth Island, by canoe and on foot. Shell Island is a Christian island while Joal is a Muslim. This is a fine example of tolerance that we find in the visit to the cemetery where Christian and Muslim graves meet.

Visit the millet granaries, the Saint François Xavier church, the cemetery and stroll through the alleys of Fadiouth. Lunch at
restaurant la Taverne du Pécheur, opposite the shellfish island.
Resumption of the track passing through the forest of the rôniers and the village of Fadial for the visit of one of the largest baobabs in the country. Arrival at Simal Ecolodge by the Saloum River in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Simal Ecolodge.

DAY 2: SIMAL- DAKAR (About 140km / 03h00) 


After breakfast, several choices of activities: canoe ride in the bolongs and bird watching, introduction to traditional fishing: longline fishing, horse riding in the surroundings, lunch in Simal and return at the end of afternoon.
